Walks in Glebe

The Glebe Society publishes Historic Glebe, a 40-page mapped walking guide around our suburb, describing the many historic buildings, their significance and heritage value within our Conservation Area. Some of these buildings and the stories of their owners and builders are told on our History page.

As part of the Millenium Track Sydney Harbour Foreshores initiative, our Three Bridges Walk (from Pyrmont to Annandale) brochure, with detailed map, describes the Foreshore Walk and Cycleway, a long-term project of The Glebe Society which is developing as waterfront sites become available.

The Foreshore Walk and Cycleway runs along the western edge of
Blackwattle Bay. The old Glebe Island and the new Anzac Bridge
dominate the sklyine.

Both the State Government and Leichhardt Municipal Council have policies of public access to the foreshores of Sydney Harbour and, while some sections of the foreshore between Annandale and Pyrmont are not currently accessible, this will gradually change following the completion of several major developments. Meanwhile residents and visitors are able to complete an interesting walk from the head of Rozelle Bay, through Glebe, to Pyrmont (or reverse) by following the map for a very different view of Sydney and its foreshores.

Accessing the walk is easily achieved by using the light rail from Central Station or Darling Harbour to the Rozelle Bay stop at the western end of the walk, or by commencing at the Wentworth Park stop (Fish Markets), and walking from Glebe to Annandale. Additionally bus #433 to Annandale delivers you to the western end of the walk, while bus #431 terminates at Bicentennial Park (Glebe Point). See the Glebe map in this website, and How do I get to Glebe?

The path along the foreshore at Glebe
High School is a possible extension
of the Foreshore Walk and Cycleway.

The Three Bridges Walk brochure, with walking route and map, is available free (on request) from The Glebe Society, PO Box 100, Glebe, 2037, but please remember to include a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope. Click here to download our publications order form.
