Glebe’s charms are about to be given an international focus through two separate projects, one interested in Glebe Walks, and the other in St Helen’s Community Garden.

The Glebe Society was approached by a representative of izi.TRAVEL, a Dutch company that supports the creation of audio guides for city tours and museums. Their large library of audio tours is accessed through a free app. They already have tours of many cities in Europe and the US, and some in Asia, and are looking to expand to Australia. Because we have a series of existing walks available free online (glebewalks.com.au) they offered us the opportunity to have three of our walks professionally recorded, to be available on their app. The three original writers of Glebe Walks are currently adapting the text for this new platform. The three walks will be: Glebe Waterfront, People and Places in Early Glebe (titled “Politicians, Publicans and Sinners” on the Glebe Walks website), and Early Architects of Glebe.

Another media venture, a couple of French filmmakers who are producing a series of television programs entitled “Un dimanche à …” (Sunday in …), are in Sydney to make a program about the life of the city on Sundays, with the emphasis on social activities that bring people together. They approached St Helen’s Community Garden about filming one of our regular gardening activities on a Sunday morning. They visited us in early February and talked to many of our members. They also plan to produce an interactive online web documentary, so we may be able to see ourselves on video, even if we don’t see the television program, which is aimed at French television. Photographs from their time in Sydney are available on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/undimanchea – a few photos of Glebe and the gardeners appear in “Week 4”.
