Esther Abrahams
b.1771 d.1846
Convicted of stealing
lace and pregnant,
Esther Abrahams was
transported to Australia on
the First Feet. On
the Voyage out she
became the companion
of Lt. George Johnston.
With him she founded the
Annandale Estate and
bore his 7 children. In
her own right she made
a success of the
estate and its diverse
enterprises.

This Place
The pavilion and park
stand on what was
once a shallow bay
fringed by mangroves,
mudflats and sandstone
outcrops. Until the arrival
of Europeans, it was the
home of the Gadigal
clan of the Eora people.
Introduced diseases
and competition for
land and water
resources led to the
displacement &
severe reduction
in numbers.

This pavilion was constructed in 2002 for the enjoyment of residents of surrounding
communities and dedicated on the 26th May 2002 by the Mayor of Leichhardt
Councillor Marc Sheehan and Councillors
